My Diabetes Family on World Diabetes Day Nov 14th

I come from four generations of type 2 diabetes. My brother lived in Australia and my grandmother lived in the Middle East. Every year on Nov 14th, World Diabetes Day, I think of them. Especially, my brother, who passed away from diabetes complications (“An Unexpected Grief Down Under”). I miss him so much. Shortly after Jamal left us, I gained a grandnephew who resembles his grandfather in so many sweet ways. Blair can give you a look that takes me back in time as if my brother was saying, “Look at what I am doing!” It’s a poignant moment when Blair sports one of his grandfather’s mischievous smiles.

This year, I had a type 2 family member I coached on working with his healthcare professional to go off of his metformin. I want to help more of you who want to work with me in a group setting to improve your diabetes self-management through my upcoming Diabetes Masterclass. Please make sure you are on our mailing list to receive an announcement.

Recently, I met up with a friend who I had not seen since last Christmas. At that time, he had been diagnosed with pre-diabetes. I offered him tips on how to reverse his condition. His pre-diabetes diagnosis is now a thing of the past.

Wishing you the best in health,

Nadia Al-Samarrie
