According to a new study, obese children who need to lose weight may benefit from vitamin D supplements. These supplements may also aid in reducing risk factors for future metabolic and heart diseases in overweight children.
The study found that children who consumed vitamin D supplements had significantly lower BMI and body fat after one year of supplementation than children who did not receive the supplement. They also had improved cholesterol levels. These findings suggest that simply supplementing with vitamin D could reduce the risk of obese and overweight children in developing serious health complications later in life.
These findings were presented at the annual European Society for Pediatric Endocrinology meeting on September 27, 2018.
