Previous research has found vitamin D deficiency to be associated with impairedbeta cell functioning and insulin resistance, and it's been suggested thatvitamin D reduces the risk of type 2.
Now researchers who followed 4,000 peoplefor seventeen years have found that to be true. The subjects with highestlevels of vitamin D had a forty percent lower risk of developing type 2 diabetesthan those with the lowest levels. Vitamin D comes mainly from fish (and fromsun exposure, which carries its own hazards).
