Study Shows Turmeric Is Helpful to Adults With Prediabetes
A study has found that taking curcumin extract, the main ingredient of the popular Indian spice turmeric, may help ward off type 2 in those with prediabetes.
A group of 240 adults took part in a double-blind study in which they took either oral curcumin or a placebo twice a day for nine months. According to Somlak Chuengsamarn, MD, the study’s principal investigator, over 16 percent of those who took the placebo were diagnosed with type 2 at the end of the study, but none of the participants who took curcumin developed the condition. Those taking curcumin reportedly also had improved beta cell functioning.
