Join in a Virtual Dance-a-thon, November 10, 2012!
You don’t have to live in San Francisco to participate in the annual Dance Out Diabetes dance-a-thon event.
This is the third annual Dance-a-thon hosted by the unique non-profit organization Dance Out Diabetes on November 10, 2012 in conjunction with World Diabetes Day events. This dance party has lots of activities for those with any type of diabetes and their circle of friends and is for all ages. It includes plenty of great music, dancing to watch or partake in, health screening, an expressive diabetes art exhibit, silent auction, free massages, vendor exhibits, refreshments, and prizes.
Theresa Garnero, APRN, BC-ADM, MSN, CDE, Founder and Volunteer Executive Director of Dance out Diabetes, has created a way to take the often sobering facts of diabetes and face them head on – while having FUN. Yes, at Dance out Diabetes events you’ll find yourself surrounded by non-judgmental, diverse, community having such a good time that you won’t believe you’re targeting weight loss and diabetes management simultaneously. Once each year, Dance out Diabetes pulls out all the stops in its annual Dance-a-thon event.
The event will be held at the African American Art & Culture Complex 762 Fulton Street (between Buchanan &Webster) in San Francisco, California from 1 – 5 p.m. The event is for people of all ages and abilities, all types of diabetes, and friends and family.
You can join in from home by tuning in virtually from www.danceoutdiabetes.org and purchase tickets in advance. This annual fundraiser allows us to support our free programs. Every $10 contributed allows one person at risk for or with diabetes to get screened for diabetes, meet with a certified diabetes educator and participate in one of our monthly dance programs.
Onsite participants will enjoy 4 hours of dancing to several genres of music with DJ Charis; local, celebrity Freeplay Dance Crew will lead us in a group dance; a Zumba routine lead by Rossy Leon live-streamed for national participation; and dance performances and contests. For your health, you can ask the endocrinologist a question, with Board of Director, Dr. Nancy Bohannon; have a health screening (A1C included) from certified diabetes educators and free diabetes educational materials and receive new information from diabetes industry and other local diabetes non-profit organizations. To feed your body and soul, enjoy an expressive Diabetes Art Show (plus the winner of the Design Contest), a silent auction, free chair massages from SF Spine Pain Relief Center, and free finger food, beverages and prizes.
