Finland Study Proves Ancient Therapy (Ginseng) Works!
Ginseng, long used to treat a variety of ills, can reduce blood glucose levels in people with type 2 diabetes. Ginseng is a plant extract that has been used for centuries to reduce fatigue and elevate mood.
The October 1995 issue of Diabetes Care reports a study from Finland in which ginseng lowered blood glucose levels and body weight, and elevated mood and psychophysical performance.
According to the report, “The 200 mg dose of ginseng improved glycated hemoglobin…and physical activity.
The study involved 36 patients newly-diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Each patient took one ginseng tablet daily for eight weeks-placebo, 100 mg or 200 mg. Blood glucose was measured at home.
Not one patient developed side effects but, “Ginseng improved the patients’ mood, vigor, well-being, and psychomotor performance…The 200 mg dosage of ginseng improved physical activity.”
Because of the positive mood changes, the patients were motivated to make healthy changes in their lifestyles.
