FDA Approval Sought for “iglucose” Tracking Technology

Florida-base PositiveID Corp. has filed a 510(k) application with the U.S Food and Drug Administration to market its “iglucose”TM diabetes management system.

The system transmits readings from a special glucometer to a diabetes management website where people with diabetes can track their glucose levels online. The data, which are secured, can be accessed by users’ family members and healthcare providers.

According to PositiveID, the system not only encourages greater self-management among people with diabetes, but also cuts down on the use of paper-based logbooks.

The 510(k) application is a request for the FDA to grant clearance to market the iglucose device in the United States.
