Dudley Retires After 16 Years in the NBA

The National Basketball Association officially announced the retirement of Chris Dudley, after a 16-year NBA career.

Dudley was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 16. He went on to graduate from Yale University and then to become a professional basketball player. During his career, the 6-foot 11-inch Dudley played center with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the New Jersey Nets, the Portland Tralblazers, the Phoenix Suns and the New York Knicks.

In 1994, he started the Dudley Foundation. One of its programs is a basketball camp, located in Vernonia, Oregon, for young people with type 1. The foundation also works to raise funds for diabetes education programs and research.
