It’s a good bet that the Mad Hatter, the March Hare and the Dormouse didn’t have to worry about body-fat composition, considering all the tea drinking they did in “Alice in Wonderland.”
Taiwanese researchers report that people who habitually drink tea have less body fat and lower hip-to-waist ratios than do infrequent tea drinkers.
The researchers studied 1,103 subjects who completed structured questionnaires concerning tea consumption and other lifestyle characteristics.
The body-fat percentage of those who had been habitual tea drinkers for more than 10 years was 19.6 percent lower than that of non-habitual tea drinkers, and their hip-to-waist ratio was 2.1 percent lower.
