“Type 1 diabetes is associatedwith a higher prevalence ofbulimia nervosa in females,”say researchers at FlorenceUniversity School of Medicinein Florence, Italy.
In a study involving 748 and1,587 female subjects withand without type 1 diabetes,respectively, the prevalenceof anorexia nervosa in type1 diabetic subjects was notsignificantly different fromthat of the nondiabetic controlsubjects. However, bulimianervosa—binge eating orpurging—was significantlyhigher in diabetic patients(1.73 percent) than in thecontrols (0.69 percent).
