Diabetes Health in The News: The Future of Diabetes Management – Smartphones

According to a new study, diabetes management may soon be available via smartphone. In the study, research identified nerve stimulation as offering therapeutic benefits in the treatment of diabetes, colitis, pancreatitis, obesity, and other disorders. By implementing bioelectronics medicine, these chronic diseases can be treated using miniature implantable devices that send electrical signals throughout the body.

This concept is similar to how pacemakers have helped heart patients. The pacemaker is essential in helping people with arrhythmias to live long, healthy lives. Bioelectronics devices can do the same to help patients with other disorders, and they may be manageable via a smartphone.

These findings were published in Trends in Molecular Medicine in November 2017.
