A 10-patient study that was recently published in BMJ Open Diabetes Research and Care provided helpful information for people with type 1 diabetes. When working out, suffering from exercise-induced hypoglycemia is always a concern.
Research has found that reducing the dosage of basal-bolus insulin and adopting a strategy for low-glycemic index eating, patients can prevent exercise-induced hypoglycemia.
The strategy also showed no association with hyperglycemia or other adverse metabolic disturbances. This shows that people with type 1 diabetes can exercise without worrying about the adverse consequences of hypoglycemia.
These findings were published in BMJ Open Diabetes Research & Care on May 12, 2015.
