Researchers from China’s Tianjin Medical University have found that adults living with type 2 diabetes appear to have elevated levels of immunoglobulin A when compared to adults without diabetes. They also had decreased levels of immunoglobulin M and G.
These findings resulted from analyzing the data of nearly 10,700 Chinese adults. All participants received at least one physical exam per year from 2010 to 2014, which included the serum-immunologic tests. Within the group, approximately 1,250 participants had type 2 diabetes, and the researchers found that these adults tended to have higher IgA and lower igG and IgM levels than the rest of the participants.
These findings were published in Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice on March 12, 2016.
