A study examined a variety of diets to determine which is the healthiest option for digestive health.

Researchers found that eating a fiber-rich Mediterranean-style diet may increase the levels of short-chain fatty acids within the stomach.

Since these fatty acids are associated with a lower risk of developing diabetes, inflammatory diseases, and heart disease, it is believed that this diet may be one of the best options for good health.

Researchers also noted,  that the quantity of vegetables, legumes, fruit, and fiber that a person consumed mattered more than the dietary regime that they followed.

These findings were published in Gut magazine on September 28, 2015.
