In a recent study out of Britain, 253 people with their firstdiabetic foot ulcer were assessed for depression. Sadly, a fullthird of them suffered from clinical depression; to be precise, 24.1percent had major depressive disorder and 8.1 percent had minordepression.
Eighteen months later, there had been forty deaths, 36amputations, and 99 recurrences of ulcer. Compared to the peoplewithout depression, the depressed people were three times morelikely to have died.
