Company to Launch Generic Test Strips

Those who skip critical blood glucose testing because of the price tag on a box of strips may soon get a break. The Charlotte, N.C.-based company UniStrip Technologies has launched a new generic blood glucose test strip, designed for use with the LifeScan OneTouch Ultra family of meters.

“Research shows that people with diabetes test less than their doctors recommend because of the high cost of test strips,” said Rick Admani, President of UniStrip Technologies. “This is important since the average person with diabetes spends about eight times more per year on medications and medical supplies than people without diabetes. This includes about $2,000 to $2,500 per year on diabetes products and an additional equal amount on non-diabetes products.”

Admani expects the UniStrip1 strips to be marketed for about $15 per 50-count box or less, compared to the current cost of $50 or $60 per vial. The strips are compatible with the OneTouch Ultra, Ultra2, UltraSmart and UltraMini meters.

“We created UniStrip1 to fill a giant unmet need in our healthcare system,” Admani said. “Our test strips are highly accurate and cleared by the FDA to use with LifeScan OneTouch Ultra meters. People with diabetes can now test at the levels they’re supposed to, and do so affordably.”

The strips met FDA standards in a clinical study.
