To keep pace with the growing number of Americans with diabetes, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) invites communities nationwide to their brand new fundraising walk, Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes.
Step Out is a one-day walk that will be held in more than 200 cities this fall. With nearly 24 million Americans living with diabetes, ADA created Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes as an aggressive attack against the disease-and a cry of hope for those affected by it. Registration is open at diabetes.org/stepout.
Step Out has more than 40,000 participants registered so far. Their goal is to have 100,000 people for 170 walks across the country. Step Out’s fundraising goal is $20 million dollars.
A Local Example in Walnut Creek: Residents Make Every Step Count
This year, 1,000 area residents will come together on Sunday, October 12, 2008, at Civic Park in Walnut Creek, California, to raise funds for Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes. Formerly known as America’s Walk for Diabetes, Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes is the fund-raising walk of the American Diabetes Association (ADA). All funds raised from Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes are used in support of the Association’s mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
“Diabetes is a devastating disease that touches us all,” said Traci Curtis, Wells Fargo Community Banking President for the East Bay. “Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes is such a wonderful way for friends and coworkers to come together and help raise money for a good cause. The camaraderie and spirit that is enjoyed by participating in this event is priceless.”
Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes is an event for the whole family, for everyone who enjoys being part of a community, and for all those who want to join ADA’s family and find an end to diabetes.
