Sweet ‘N Low recently awarded Jerrilynn D. Burrowes, MS, RD, CS, CDN, with the newly established Sweet ‘N Low Nutrition Scholarship of $5,000.
“I am honored and grateful to have been selected as the first scholarship recipient … I was also delighted to learn that there are companies out there interested in the role of nutrition in the prevention and treatment of chronic disease, especially in the African- American community,” says Borrowes. Sweet ‘N Low aims to increase awareness among the African-American community of their elevated risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Currently enrolled in New York University’s (NYU) Nutrition and Food Studies doctoral program, Burrowes continues to coordinate research in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at the Beth Israel Medical Center Dialysis Treatment Center.
Sweet ‘N Low’s president Marvin Eisentadt presented the scholarship at a ceremony held at NYU on October 6.
