NIDDK Launches New Outreach Program

By: dhtest

To help people with diabetes incorporate the findings of the DCCT, the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) has launched the National Diabetes Outreach Program.

The program, “Do Your Level Best,” has created a free information packet for consumers and health care professionals which includes a copy of the DCCT fact sheet and a “Questions to Ask Your Doctor” card.

The card, which is intended to increase the communication and teamwork between people with diabetes and their doctors, includes such questions as: What is my glycosylated hemoglobin? What is a normal glycosylated hemoglobin and how can I get mine in that range? How often and under what conditions should I test my blood sugar? What changes should we make as a result of the DCCT? What effect has diabetes had on my eyes and kidneys?
