Novo Awards Native American Nursing Scholarships

Novo Nordisk recently began awardingscholarships to Native American nursingstudents.

“The purpose of the scholarship is torecognize academic excellence andachievement among Native Americannursing students and to inspire nursesto consider dedicating their careersto diabetes research, education andtreatment in their own community,”says Novo.

In its first year, the Novo NordiskDiabetes Scholarship Fund awardedtwo $5,000 scholarships to nursingstudents at the College of St. Scholasticain Duluth, Minnesota. The recipientswere Kristin Aiken of the Red Cliff Bandof Lake Superior Chippewa and RobinJohnson of the Fond du Lac Band ofLake Superior Chippewa.

Scholarship winners were chosen basedupon the students’ academic recordand their commitment to serve nativecommunities after graduation.
