A recent Swedish study shows that type 1 status affects the risk for stomach, cervical, and endometrial cancers. However, the risk of breast, colon, rectal, pancreatic, and kidney cancers is not affected by type 1 status.
Researchers in Sweden evaluated 30,000 type 1s below the age of 31 for cancer through the Swedish Inpatient Register and the Swedish Cancer Register, finding 355 cases of cancer. Relative to the general population, this represents a 20 percent higher risk of cancer.
