Twice Daily Lantus Better for BG Rises

U.K researchers say that twice-daily injection of insulin glargine (Lantus) helps to alleviate blood glucose rises in the late afternoon and drops toward the end of a 24-hour period that are frequently seen in type 1s who inject Lantus once daily with a meal-time fast-acting insulin.

In an eight-week crossover study, 20 people with type 1 diabetes were randomized to Lantus injection once daily at dinner or twice daily at breakfast and dinner times.

“Mean 24-hour [blood glucose] concentration was lower with twice-daily glargine [127.8 mg/dl vs. 158.4 mg/dl],” write the researchers.
