Latest Camps for Kids Articles
On April 25-27, 14 families of children with diabetes will enjoy a weekend at the Double H Ranch in Lake Luzerne, N.Y., thanks to Pump Wear Inc., which manufactures insulin pump-related accessories.
Double H Ranch, co-founded by Charles Wood and actor Paul Newman, is dedicated to children with major or life-threatening illnesses. Campers who attend Double H pay nothing except the cost of their transportation to the site.
Lake Luzerne is located in New York’s scenic Adirondack Mountain Preserve, the largest stretch of wilderness and protected lands east of the Mississippi River.
In Double H’s beautiful mountain setting, the families will enjoy typical camp activities, including arts and crafts, swimming, a talent show, nature walks, horseback riding and challenge courses.
Parents will also be able to participate in conferences covering such topics as school issues, training caregivers, dealing with celiac and diabetes, handling stress and parenting non-diabetic siblings.
A highlight of the weekend will be a special visit from Deanna Walker, Miss New York 1999, who will be attending with her husband and daughter. Walker, who has type 1 diabetes (her daughter was also recently diagnosed with type 1), will work with the children on a dance routine and the talent show.
The weekend is the first of its type sponsored by Pump Wear, which says it hopes to make a tradition and continue once a year from now on.
The company attracted some major sponsors for the weekend, including Abbott Diabetes Care, Animas Corp., Disetronic, Insulet Corp., Medtronic, Novo Nordisk, and Diabetes Health.

How nice that a company is giving back to the people who need it. I've ordered from them before and will continue to support Pump Wear. Their products are of excellent quality and they are angels to deal with. Way to go ladies! If they do the camp next year, I'm going to apply! :)
The Lake Luzerne, N.Y area is beautiful, the Kids will have a great time!
