Latest Islet & Pancreas Articles
Talk of a cure has been around forever. Sometimes it seems as if the cure is a constantly receding dream, always ten years away or just around the next corner.
But there are breakthroughs happening all the time, and maybe one of them will lead to the long-awaited cure. That's why we report on all the research as it appears, in the hope, albeit leavened with skepticism, that this time, this will be the one.
There are two basic arms of cure research. For information on the artificial pancreas, which is actually a treatment that depends upon a closed-loop pump/meter system, see Planting the Seeds for an Artificial Pancreas.
The other arm of attack is a biological one, in which islet cell transplant and regeneration are the key players. For background on pig islet transplantation, see Transplanting Islets from Piglets to Humans.
Stem cell research is explained in The Hype Surrounding Stem Cells. For an interview with a human islet transplant pioneer, see No More Diabetes.

Instead of waisting all this money on research for a cure that never seems to come,
take that money and help real diabetics get some affordable health insurance.

I have heard the cure was around the corner
for 37 years.
I am disappointed that you didn't even mention Dr Denise Faustman's research at Massachusetts Gen Hospital. Hers is the ONLY research that has proven islet cell regeneration (in mice), even in end-stage disease. No transplants, no anti-rejection drugs. Phase 1 clinical trials in humans have begun, as stated in their news release this week. I just feel that ALL options toward a cure should be mentioned.
I'm beginning to think there will never be a cure becauses it's a huge money maker. Just like cancer.
THERE WON'T BE A CURE
Being negative about a cure is not good for anyone, you, the world, or I. Have hope. Thats all one can do.
Remain hopeful :) The alternative is not going to help anyone. I think everyone saying that there is a cure around the corner is a long shot but my money is on the long shot again because without hope what do you have?

While we're waiting for that ever elusive cure, how about moving rapidly forward with research on c-peptide? Substantial research shows it can prevent and reduce severe complications. The body makes it as part of the process of making insulin so it has a very high potential for being safe AND (since the body rarely makes "throwaways" for being necessary to good health. Like so many things, when they first figured out that insulin facilitated the absorption of sugar, the couldn't figure out immediately what the c-peptide which is created at the same time was for. So instead of assuming that it was necessary, they decided it didn't do anything. And, for the most part, except for a few forward thinking researchers, they never revisited that potentially fatal assumption. Write the JDRF and ask them to fund C-Peptide research. It has the potential to keep complications at bay or reverse them while we all wait for the holy grail.
I have seen many books in internet about diabetes treatment including some book hints that inside their book is the formula to cure that but it didn't open the message instead they persuade to purchase the book. In this book they demand for reverse the diabetes. I hope one day man will success in cure of diabetes and pray for the cure of this disease. Researcher and scientist must may their attention for cure this disease rather prolong treatment.
