Bayer Diabetes Care has recalled 230,000 bottles of Contour TS test strips after finding that the strips resulted in blood glucose readings 5 to 17 percent higher than actual levels.

Bayer said that the strips, used with its Contour TS Blood Glucose Meter, had been produced on new manufacturing equipment that had not been properly calibrated. The company says it has subsequently corrected the problem.

Fifty-three production lots were involved in the recall. For information of the test strips' product code and lot numbers, go to the Bayer Diabetes Care Web site. You may also call 1-800-348-8100 for return information.

The recall does not affect Contour TS meters themselves, which the company says have no performance problems.
