A low glycemic diet is sometimes advised for people with diabetes because it raises blood sugar slowly and reduces blood sugar spikes. Well, now Australian dermatologists have found that it clears up your skin as well.
After twelve weeks on a low-glycemic diet, about twenty pimple-riddled young men had 22 fewer acne lesions than when they started. A control group only had about fourteen fewer acne lesions.
The low-glycemic group also lost weight, became more sensitive to insulin, and had reduced levels of the male sex hormone androgen. The researchers, reporting in the August 2006 Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, weren't sure if the pimple-fighting effects of the diet were due to better insulin sensitivity, weight loss, or both. High levels of insulin are thought to contribute to acne.

Are there any studies involving women on low-glycemic diets and their skin and blood sugars?
When my sister (who had bad acne) and I were young, my grandmother would always tell her to not eat candy, chocolates, & soda. Sweet things in general.
I guess grandma was pretty smart and ahead of her time.:)
A low glycemic diet is the best for diabetics, easier to manage naturally or even if you take pills or insulin. Less stress on the body is going to show in better skin. So its good that a lack of pimples gives you an indication of the good job you are doing for your body. I've done low glycemic for years now since my diagnosis, I still get pimples at middle age but they are less infected than before
Until I read this it didn't click. I was diagnosed with Type 2 about 3 months ago. I have been diligent about what I eat and rarely need my medication. Just recently I have had 4 people, including my teenage daughter comment on how my skin looks better. Less wrinkles and undereye bags.
