Patients Taking High Doses of Insulin May Benefit From the Pump

Apr 1, 2006

From the Spring Research Guide

A group of Buffalo, NY, researchers recommend that patients with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes who take extremely high doses of insulin give the insulin pump a try.

Four type 2 patients with poor control who were taking large amounts of insulin and oral medications were started on the pump. All four showed marked improvement in both BG readings and A1C levels.

“This improvement was associated with a marked fall in the insulin doses,” write the researchers.
