Controllable by Lifestyle Choices
Swedish researchers report that people with diabetes experience more frequent heartburn, acid regurgitation and nausea than people without diabetes.
A group from Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Göteborg evaluated questionnaires completed by 242 patients between 20 and 69 years of age who were matched according to age, sex and body mass.
The results showed that type 1s had more frequent and intense gastrointestinal symptoms—both upper and lower—than the control group.
Some good news, however:
The presence of symptoms was the result of lifestyle factors such as smoking and diet rather than lack of diabetes control.
