Diabetes Epidemic Crisis for Diabetes Educators and Their Patients

Scott King speaks with Donna Rice, President of the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) about the crisis facing diabetes educators and their patients during a worldwide diabetes epidemic. Despite that epidemic, diabetes educators are losing their jobs and diabetes centers are closing their doors. As a result, diabetes patients are not receiving the information and knowledge they need to help them manage their disease. Hopefully, patients will learn from this video that they should request their doctor to refer them to a diabetes educator.

It is always interesting trying to observe something that we don't ourselves live with. Though I do not have diabetes, I am surrounded by it through family, friends and work on a daily basis.

Slim Fast Scare

I just had a frightening experience. A severe hypoglycemic, I took my regular 5 units of R Humulin 30 minutes before lunch. Instead of my normal sandwich and milk at lunch, I drank a glass of Slim Fast with milk. I carefully read the label and figured out that it was almost identical to the sandwich in calories, carbs and sugars.

Romance in a Time of Diabetes Romance in a Time of Diabetes

Romance is different than sex. Sex is an "act" that you "perform," and, as such, it can be thwarted by worries about failure and performance, especially in people with diabetes-related complications. Romance is another thing entirely.
