Becton, Dickinson and Company, of Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, best known for its insulin syringes, has entered the blood-glucose meter market with two products: the BD Logic blood-glucose monitor and the BD Latitude Diabetes Management System.
Both combine the thinnest lancets available with test strips that require only a small amount of blood and deliver results in five seconds. BD Ultra-Fine 33-gauge lancets are thinner than the standard 28-gauge version, and the meters use only 0.3 microliters of blood.
The BD Logic is available in a standard meter kit. The BD Latitude combines the meter with an organizer that holds the necessary supplies for an insulin injection, including space for an insulin pen and pen needles. The meter memory stores 250 blood-glucose and insulin records.
