Hi!, My name is Niranjan Divecha, Age:56,

I am diagnosed Diabetes in recent Medical Check up, marginally above the tolerance levels in both Fasting as well as PP. I hv decided to counter the disease with Fenugreek seeds (15-20 seeds per day soaked overnight in 30-50 ml of water and to be consumed first thing in the morning after brushing the teeth). I wish to know from learned people on the site whether the quantity is alright and how long should it be taken. While I am aware that every person will require for different durations, I need a general guideline only.

Thanks,

Niranjan Divecha.

In a study on type 2 diabetics, issued in Nutrition Research, in 1996, 25 grams of powdered fenugreek seed was given twice a day in addition to the medication therapy.

The result was the decreasing of average fasting glucose from 151mg/dl to 112 mg/dl. Also the glucose levels two hours after meal were decreased together with the average A1C from 9.6 % to 8.4 % after 8 weeks.  Source  of  this  info is    http://www.all-about-beating-diabetes.com/fenugreek-for-diabetes.html

I'm not sure how much that is in mg that you are taking, but I have found some cautions that you need to be aware of when it comes to taking fenugreek.

On a cautionary note this herb could interfere with blood-thinning drugs, MAO inhibitors and can induce premature childbirth.

Just wanted you to be safe when taking this herb.  Good luck to you.
