I am the mother of a 24-year-old who has been living with type 1 diabetes for 21 years. My heart is broken and I’m reaching out for any kind of help or advice that is out there to save my daughters life. She has been in terrible control for at least the last 10 years, which is a whole different story I won’t get into at the moment. But right now what is happening is she’s having life threatening low blood sugars every 2 or 3 days which result in unconsciousness and frequent trips to the ER in an ambulance, or a loved one somehow getting her out of it on their own. This has been going on for over a year. She does wear a pump but obviously is not using it correctly or checking her blood sugars as she should. We, meaning her entire family and many caring friends, are beyond frightened and upset…it’s emotionally tearing us apart. My daughter needs immediate help from the medical community. My wish is to see her admitted to the hospital, get off the pump for a while and go back to injections, and be medically supervised for a few days until her blood sugars are stable. She needs to start all over. I don’t know how to go about this. She’s an adult. She knows she’s in trouble but seems incapable of helping herself and is not reaching out to her medical provider or her family. Her father and I (and siblings) dread the day when we get the phone call she’s dead or in a coma and brain damaged because someone wasn’t there to help her in time. This is an extremely serious situation...her life is on the line. Please help us find a way to help her.

My heart certainly goes out to you and your daughter.  I have a close relative whose 17 year old son suffers from juvenile diabetes.  She has devoted her life to taking care of her son, but sadly this disease has taken a drastic toll on his overall health.  I know that as a mother myself how you ache for your daughter and wish to help her.  I don't really have any suggestions for you in that matter, but just wanted to let you know that the pain in your message really has compelled me to reach out to you and wish you well.
