FDA Says Levemir OK for Pregnant Women

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says that Levemir is safe for use by pregnant women and does not increase the risk of harm to children in the womb.

Levemir (insulin detemir), manufactured by Novo Nordisk, is a long-acting insulin analog used to maintain insulin basal levels. Both type 1s and type 2s use it.

The FDA says it based its decision on a clinical trial that involved 310 women.
