New Lancing Device Goes Into Space

International Technidyne Corporation (ITC) of Edison, New Jersey, has announced that their Tenderlett finger incision device was been selected by NASA for use in space. In March, NASA sent ITC’s Tenderlett device into space with seven astronauts aboard the space shuttle Atlantis I.

Blood glucose testing is part of an ongoing experiment NASA is conducting involving the energy utilization of their astronauts during space missions.

NASA selected the Tenderlett because it proved to be less painful than other finger incision devices on the market. Also, the Tenderlett provided excellent blood flow for sampling, which can sometimes be a problem in the weightlessness of space.
