Diabetes Camping Association Hosts Conference for Camp Staff Education

By: Sharon Mulry

Diabetes summer camps help children develop healthy habits, and the Diabetes Camping Association (DCA) helps camps to enrich their curricula. To help prepare for the summer of 2000, the DCA will host its third annual Diabetes International Camping Conference February 16-20, 2000, near Orlando, Florida.

Sponsored by MiniMed, the conference offers workshops for camp staffers to get together and share information.

Health Care Professionals can attend workshops on pump therapy, HbA1c testing, carb counting, night rounds, new medical technologies and microalbumin testing.

Camp Program Professionals can catch up on adventure camping, family and weekend camps, role modeling and camper motivation, dealing with homesickness and making activities fun.

Camp Administrative Staff Members will learn about volunteer recruitment, liability and insurance issues, starting and strengthening camps, getting support from service organizations and fund raising ideas.

For information on the conference or membership in the DCA, call president Zula Walters at (256) 882-0372 or email cshzula@juno.com.
