Medifast, Inc., of Owing Mills, Maryland, is launching a new line of meal-replacement products designed for people with diabetes. The Medifast Plus for Diabetics line features soy-based foods and includes products such as shakes, bars, soups, oatmeal, chili and ready-to-drink beverages that are low in sugar, fat, calories and carbohydrates and are also low on the glycemic index, according to a Medifast news release.
In addition, Johns Hopkins University will conduct a two-year study to determine whether the products effectively contribute to weight loss for obese people with type 2 diabetes, both while these individuals are actively trying to lose weight and while they are maintaining weight loss. The study will also assess quality-of-life effects of the meal-replacement products and their impact on medications.
The line of meal-replacement products has been certified as low glycemic by the Glycemic Research Institute and is currently available for purchase. For more information, or to purchase the products, call (866) 4 Medifast (866-463-3432) or log on to www.medifastdiet.com.
