A videotape sponsored by Novo Nordisk and developed in partnership with the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists won a Chicago/Midwest Emmy Award.
“Diabetes: A Guide for Hispanic Americans,” won the award for “Outstanding Achievement for Informational Programming for a Single-Issue Public Affairs Program” by the Chicago/Midwest chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
According to Novo Nordisk, one in four Latinos will be diagnosed with diabetes before the age of 45. The video aims to educate this population about the risk of developing the disease as well as how to prevent diabetes with exercise, weight maintenance and a healthy diet.
The 30-minute videotape was produced in both Spanish and English and features U.S. Rep. Silvestre Reyes (Texas), celebrities Gloria Araya-Quinlan and Jose Alberto (“El Canario”) as well as endocrinologists Jaime Davidson and Pablo Mora.
“Effective education is essential if people with diabetes are to live healthy lives in spite of their disease,” said Andrew Purcell, vice president of diabetes marketing at Novo Nordisk. “We’re proud to have partnered with the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists in sponsoring this education program, because it addresses the diabetes education needs of the Hispanic community, a group that experiences a higher incidence of diabetes than the national average.”
